Support SB 253 to Establish Kansas Massage Licensure

January 30, 2026

Senate Bill 253 has been introduced in Kansas, proposing statewide licensure for massage therapy, improving public protection and regulatory consistency.

Kansas is one of only a few states without statewide regulation of massage therapy. Forty-five states already require licensure for massage therapists, ensuring consistent education standards and basic public protections.

Without a state license, Kansas massage therapists must comply with a patchwork of city-by-city ordinances, often paying for multiple local licenses in order to practice across municipal lines. This fragmented system is financially and administratively burdensome for practicing massage professionals. Establishing statewide licensure would reduce unnecessary barriers while creating consistent standards across Kansas.
