Over the years I have attained educational degrees and held a myriad of jobs. Life seemed like a “to-do list,” I was successful yet unfulfilled. My health began to suffer due to stress and other medical issues. I had surgery in 2012 then another in 2014. During this time I was in the Dissertation phase of a PhD program. I was pursuing a PhD in Social and Community Services. After the first surgery I rested the prescribed amount of time and went back to work and school. In 2014 when the Doctor decided I needed another surgery I took it in stride. My recovery was more extensive than I expected which allowed time to really examine my heart and the life I had created for my children and me. I vocalized and owned what I already knew, my life was making me “sick!” I began to peel off the layers of survival, conventionalism, and pride. Once this process was over I began to ponder what I actually enjoyed, this took several weeks. I had not experienced true joy since the birth of my children. Touch and connecting with others had been the thriving energy for everything that I had pursued or accomplished. I began to ponder massage therapy and decided to research the qualifications to become a massage therapist. Since I had not been released to return to work I took this as an opportunity to throw caution to the wind and resign. After that huge decision I researched Massage Schools and enrolled in the American College Massage School in Crown Point, Indiana. Words cannot express the passion, freedom, and joy that I am experiencing! I have finally found my niche in life. I have decided to take a break from my PhD program. I could not move forward still hanging on to my old pursuits. I am reminded of a quote which sums up my journey:
“Come to the edge, he said.
We are afraid, they said.
Come to the edge, he said.
They came to the edge,
He pushed them and they flew."
