SB 492 Passes in Maryland: Improving Standards for Massage Advertising
April 23, 2026
We are excited to share that Senate Bill 492 (SB 492) has been signed into law and will take effect on October 1, 2026—thanks to the collaborative efforts of Maryland massage therapists, dedicated lobbyists, and the AMTA Government Relations Team.
SB 492 strengthens the oversight of massage therapy advertising by:
-
Addressing misleading language
-
Establishing a clear process for reporting violations
-
Enhancing business identification requirements
These measures will help to clearly distinguish licensed massage therapy professionals from illicit operations—protecting practitioners and reinforcing public trust.
The passage of SB 492 is an important step toward safer practice standards for Maryland massage therapists!
