Congratulations to the 2025 National Award Recipients

AMTA celebrates the accomplishments of individuals whose dedication, enthusiasm and leadership have made a tremendous impact on the massage therapy community by bestowing a series of national awards. Congratulations to the following 2025 National Award Recipients for their outstanding service!

Diane Polseno Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient: Michael Garcia

The Dianne Polseno Lifetime Achievement Award honors the memory of Dianne Polseno, an industry leader who left behind a legacy of integrity, professionalism, leadership, volunteer service, massage research and an unquestionable commitment to the advancement of the massage education profession.

With nearly 30 years as a massage therapist and 50 as a Registered Nurse, Michael Garcia, RN, LMT, MLD-C, CDT-LANA, has devoted his life to caring for others. An approved CE provider since 2003, his extensive healthcare background informs his innovative approach to massage therapy education. Due to his continuing education courses and tenure as an instructor, hundreds of students have successfully passed their massage licensing exams—with many graduates saying he is the best instructor they have ever had.

Additionally, Michael has served as president of the local chapter of the Florida State Massage Therapy Association, held office with AMTA, and published numerous articles. Based in Jacksonville, FL, Michael is a pillar of the massage therapy community—making a lasting impact on every student, therapist and client he interacts with.

Jerome Perlinski Teacher of the Year Award Recipient: Tracie Skolny

This award honors the memory of Jerome Perlinski, an extraordinary educator and much-loved leader. When colleagues remember Jerome, they use words like inspired, passionate, motivating, principled and exceptional; this honor is given to an educator who embodies these characteristics and supports the next generation of massage therapists.

Tracie Skolny, BHSc, RMT, is an exceptional teacher who is cherished for her positive and engaging learning style as well as her ability to develop a supportive, inclusive classroom environment. She has shared her expertise in a variety of settings including teaching at Fanshaw College, guest lecturing for the Registered Massage Therapists of Ontario Association and cultivating the student InReach Program which, due to Tracie’s efforts, has partnered with Fanshaw Varsity athletes and St. Joe’s Hospital Breast Care Center.

Her genuine interest in students’ well-being and her vast knowledge base help ensure students remain motivated and excited about learning. Tracie’s commitment to experiential learning and constant innovation within the massage therapy program have helped train the next generation of massage therapists and advance the profession.

Distinguished Service Award Recipient: Dr. Niki Munk

The Distinguished Service Award is given annually to honor someone who has contributed to the massage therapy profession in an outstanding manner and to acknowledge diligent volunteerism done in an altruistic manner. 

Niki Munk, PhD, LMT, is a dedicated educator and researcher whose service continues to advance the massage therapy profession. She devotes her time to supporting others as an Associate Professor at Indiana University Indianapolis and a clinically trained and licensed massage therapist. Additionally, Dr. Munk is a Massage Therapy Foundation trustee and co-investigator on the VA-funded TOMCATT study which examines care-ally assisted and therapist-provided massage for veterans with chronic neck pain.

Her research has provided valuable insights into massage therapy’s role in addressing chronic pain and improving the quality of life for clients. Recognized as a leader in the profession, Dr. Munk’s contributions continue to support the advancement of massage therapy.

President's Award Recipient: Dr. Ann Blair Kennedy

The President’s Award honors someone who has contributed to the massage therapy profession in an outstanding and altruistic manner, and is selected by AMTA’s National President. 

Ann Blair Kennedy, LMT, BCTMB, DrPH, is a committed member of the massage therapy community, enhancing the profession through research, education and professional development. Dr. Kennedy is an Associate Professor, a leader in patient engagement and integrative health initiatives, and a dedicated advocate of massage therapy. Their extensive contributions as a researcher, educator, and therapist have helped advance the integration of massage therapy in healthcare settings.

Dr. Kennedy has an unwavering commitment to service, mentorship, and community engagement, highlighted by their volunteer projects focused on promoting health equity. Additionally, they have applied their extensive expertise in collaboration with AMTA and the Massage Therapy Foundation, serving as AMTA’s Governance Chair since 2016 where they provided steadfast leadership and a commitment to transparency.

Their thoughtful guidance and deep understanding of the massage therapy profession have helped ensure AMTA’s work remains aligned with our mission and values. Dr. Kennedy is a trailblazer of the massage therapy profession, exemplifying strong leadership, compassion, and excellence.

Becky Schwoebel Making a Difference Award Recipient: Sharon Remaly

The Becky Schwoebel Making a Difference Award is an honor bestowed on a long-term volunteer who has helped bring positive change and innovation to the massage therapy profession. This award recognizes Becky Schwoebel, a volunteer and valued friend to AMTA who left behind a legacy of integrity, professionalism, leadership, and volunteerism.

Sharon Remaly, BS, LMT, BCTMB, has made countless contributions during her time as a dedicated volunteer. Most recently, she served as a member of the AMTA’s National Government Relations Committee and the Government Relations Chair for the Georgia Chapter, highlighting her commitment to advocating for the profession.

Sharon draws on her experience serving in the military and showcases her background in HR with the natural leadership, confidence and support that she brings to all of her volunteer roles. She is steadfast in her service, continually demonstrating resilience and grace in the face of challenges. Sharon embodies the spirit of volunteerism and exemplifies what it means to make a difference in the massage therapy community.

Government Relations and Legislative Advocate Award Recipient: Raymond Russell Rust

The Government Relations and Legislative Advocate award honors an AMTA Member who has achieved exceptional accomplishments at the chapter and/or national level in government relations and legislative activities.

Raymond Russell Rust, LMT, has been a dedicated leader and advocate for massage therapy in Texas for over two decades. He has held numerous leadership roles—including three terms as Chapter President and longstanding tenure as Government Relations Chair—contributing to key legislative milestones such as establishing licensure, increasing educational standards and supporting anti-human trafficking initiatives.

In addition to operating two massage schools and maintaining a massage therapy practice, Raymond continues to educate AMTA members on evolving state regulations and collaborate with state agencies and legislators. Through his tireless commitment and extensive efforts, he has profoundly shaped the profession in Texas.

National Meritorious Award Recipient: Mindy Michaud

The National Meritorious Award is given for diligent volunteerism done in an altruistic manner.

Miranda "Mindy" Michaud is a dedicated volunteer whose long-standing involvement with the Connecticut Chapter, as well as her service at the National level, reflects a deep commitment to leadership and giving back to the profession. In addition to nine years in elected chapter roles, including a term as Chapter President, she has served nationally as Sergeant at Arms for the House of Delegates and as a Facilitator for the Assembly of Delegates.

Following the conclusion of her presidency in 2024, Mindy has continued to mentor new volunteers, contribute to conference planning and marketing efforts, and provide support wherever needed. Her collaborative spirit and commitment to helping others grow have played a vital role in sustaining the chapter’s momentum and preparing the next generation of leaders.

Others First Award Recipient: Nanette Ginise

The Others First Award honors an AMTA member whose volunteer work, primarily massage, is done in the larger or extended community.

Nanette Ginise is a compassionate leader and advocate whose work centers on supporting women in recovery through therapeutic touch. From her early volunteer experiences to founding Self Care for Recovery — a nonprofit dedicated to providing massage therapy to women in recovery — she has shown extraordinary vision, perseverance and empathy in addressing a critical need within this community.

Through strategic partnerships, therapist recruitment, public education and events, Nanette has expanded access to massage therapy while elevating its role in the recovery process. Nanette's innovating thinking is invaluable to the massage community; her altruistic contributions showcase her dedication to health, wellness and the profession.

New Volunteer of the Year Award Recipient: Jennifer Dionne

The New Volunteer of the Year Award is given to honor and recognize emerging volunteers in AMTA.

Jennifer Dionne, LMT, is a dedicated volunteer whose passion and initiative have made a lasting impression on the Connecticut Chapter. Since becoming a Chapter Delegate in 2023, she has embraced the position with enthusiasm — engaging members, supporting Assembly of Delegates preparation through coordinated outreach, and providing valuable input during the chapter’s strategic planning process.

In 2024, she was elected to the chapter board, where she has helped enhance their communications through visually engaging social media content, timely updates and active support of a major website redesign. Known for her big heart and creative approach, Jenn has quickly distinguished herself as a rising leader in the chapter.

New Volunteer of the Year Award Recipient: Kelley Silva

The New Volunteer of the Year Award is given to honor and recognize emerging volunteers in AMTA.

Kelley Silva is an engaged and driven volunteer who has quickly made her mark on the Massachusetts Chapter. After being elected Chapter Delegate, she fully embraced the role—attending CVOP, actively seeking mentorship and facilitating Chapter Delegate Open Houses ahead of the 2024 Assembly of Delegates.

Recently, she stepped into the role of Chapter Online Elections Coordinator, approaching it with organization, timeliness and collaboration. Whether she’s representing the chapter or sharing insights from her work as a practitioner and business owner, Kelley brings curiosity, energy and a strong commitment to advancing the profession.

Certificate of Appreciation Award Recipient: Elizabeth Benion

The Certificate of Appreciation honors recipient(s) who have contributed to the massage profession, celebrates diligent volunteerism done in an altruistic manner, and acknowledges someone who has bridged the gap between AMTA and/or massage and other associations and/or professions.

Elizabeth Benion, LMT, is a dedicated volunteer who recently helped the Nevada Chapter navigate their way through a complicated situation. Elizabeth consistently exemplifies AMTA’s core values and demonstrates the true meaning of service and dedication. Elizabeth is always going above and beyond for her Chapter and its members.

The Certificate of Appreciation honors recipient(s) who have contributed to the massage profession, celebrates diligent volunteerism done in an altruistic manner, and acknowledges someone who has bridged the gap between AMTA and/or massage and other associations and/or professions.

Mandy Hatch, LMT, is a dedicated volunteer who has made an incredible impact on the massage therapy community. No matter where life may take her, Mandy is always stepping up to serve and advance the profession. Throughout her AMTA volunteer career, Mandy has contributed her time and talents to multiple chapters, including Texas and North Carolina, and currently serves as Secretary for the California Chapter.

Her devotion to the massage therapy profession shines through in her commitment to excellence, innovation, and community. Mandy is a true ambassador for AMTA, and her unwavering service continues to uplift the profession.

Through her dedication, she has helped cultivate meaningful connections and strengthen bonds across the profession.
