SB 5845 Is Enacted: Improving Reimbursement Practices for Washington Massage Therapists
April 1, 2026
We are excited to share that, thanks to the strong collaborative efforts from our Washington members, Senate supporters, insurance companies, and our lobbying team, along with the AMTA Government Relations team, SB 5845 is now enacted.
This is a significant victory for health care providers and ensures more predictable, fair, and efficient reimbursement practices for Washington massage therapists.
How This Legislation Impacts Massage Therapists
Earlier this session, Washington Senate Bill 6071 (SB 6071) was introduced to address the key issues related to overpayment recovery and timely reimbursements standards. This bill required insurers to:
-
Pay clean claims within 30 days
-
Notify health care providers within 21 days of any issue
-
Significantly shorten the timeframe for requesting repayments
