About Joan

With my Targeted Knotwork for Myoskeletal Pain Debugging service, my preference is to work with clients dealing with acute or chronic issues limiting painfree mobility in a particular area, like a hand, or ankle, or shoulder.  These sessions ONLY focus on the particular area.

I don't do standard Swedish or Deep Tissue Massage.  The only full-body massage styles I offer are

  • Gentle Pain Calming - a clothed style that does not involve turning over - the entire massage is done with the client reclining face-up on the massage table.  I have training in Dermoneuromodulation and SMRT (Spontaneous Muscle Release Technique), and incorporate these approaches in the session.

  • Fijian Myofascial Massage - Barefoot Deep Tissue Sports/Maintenance Massage (Floor Mat) - I use my feet (and sometimes hands) to give a deep-feeling full-body massage - another clothed style, but the client must be able to get down on the floor and get up off the floor.

While I used to have a busy practice of table-based deep tissue massage with lotion, I no longer offer that style of massage.  There are many other local therapists who offer table-based relaxation and health-maintenance styles of massage, and I encourage you to book with them if that is what you are looking for.  I am open to performing housecalls, however, I do not carry a table.  Generally, I do such work on the client's own furniture (e.g. dining chair or recliner), but I can also bring the mat and pillows for Fijian work.

I've been doing massage professionally since 2006, and am moving more into educating other massage therapists, and supporting the clients I already have long-established relationships with.  I do have some specialty areas of work where people have recommended me, and I can't think of anyone else local to recommend, so I'm not 100% a closed practice, but very nearly so. In practical terms this means that I have very few (and in some months, *no*) openings, and they might be at an inconvenient time.
