Karen Bauman is a dedicated therapeutic bodyworker with over ten years of experience in facilitating relief from acute and chronic pain. She is a Certified Massage Therapist in the state of California. Her initial training was a 1000-hour program from the Western Institute of Neuromuscular Therapy, instructed by Cynthia Ribeiro, former AMTA president. The focus of this program was recovery and rehabilitation, having a strong emphasis on anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and trigger points.
She also has over 500 hours of training in Myofascial Release as taught by John F. Barnes. This is a gentle and effective method for achieving permanent lasting results in reducing pain and dysfunction by eliminating fascial restrictions, which the restores the structural balance of the body.
Her most recent training is in Somatic Experiencing and Organic Intelligence, naturalistic methods to restore balance to the nervous system which promotes the resolution of post-traumatic stress reactions. In this vein, she also has trained in Touch Skills for Trauma Therapists.
Finally, to provide the most compassionate care, Karen regularly receives training in, and practices, mindfulness. She also enjoys teaching, frequently leading workshops and seminars in self-treatment, injury prevention, and the prevention and care of PTSD.
