Shaun T sat down with AMTA's Massage Therapy Journal to talk about his personal self-care practices, the role massage therapy plays in his wellness regimen and why you should see him at the AMTA 2017 National Convention.
What are some ways you personally practice self-care?
Every day, I find time for myself. I’ve realized that if I give myself time to go play tennis, or go get a massage, or run or do a workout on my own, I not only can give energy, but also accept energy from other people. If you don’t give yourself enough time, you will miss opportunities when people are actually trying to provide you with positivity because your brain is so saturated with everything that is going on in your life.
What role does massage therapy play in your health and wellness regimen?
Massage is important to me for many different reasons. No. 1, it’s important for me to relieve muscle tension. Also, stress relief. You know, being a health and exercise science major in college, one of the most important classes that I ever took was stress management. Ever since, I’ve realized how important it is to find ways to de-stress.
So now because I’m so physical and I have to be motivational and mentally empowering, it’s really important for me to have overall wellness.

Who is Shaun T?
Shaun T is a world-renowned health and fitness expert, TV host, motivator and creator of the best-selling fitness programs including Insanity. Through personal appearances, his workout programs, the Transformation Academy, his podcast Trust and Believe with Shaun T, and his self-help memoir T IS FOR TRANSFORMATION, Shaun T is focused on affecting positive lifestyle changes in people around the world and proving that becoming the best version of yourself is attainable. A native of New Jersey, Shaun T received a BS in sports science and a minor in theater and dance from Rowan University.

In addition to fitness programs such as Insanity, Shaun T has hosted several primetime TV series and shared the stage with Adam Lambert and Val Kilmer in the musical version of the Ten Commandments, as well as landing roles in Pippin, Applause, Six Feet Under and the feature film Beauty Shop. He’s danced with Mariah Carey, and choreographed for USTA’s Arthur Ashe Kids Day, the NCAA Final Four Halftime Show and the movie Bring it on: All or Nothing.
