Avoiding Burnout in Your Massage Career (Hands-on)

Felicia Brown is the owner of Spalutions and provides business and marketing advice to massage, spa and wellness professionals. She has been a licensed massage therapist since 1994 and owns A to Zen Massage, a wellness spa in Greensboro, NC.

Introduction to Neural and Visceral Manipulation for Massage Therapists (Hands-on with table)

Neural and visceral manipulation use manual techniques to enhance optimal mobility and function by improving fascia around the nerves and organs. This introductory course will explore neural and visceral manipulation concepts and review anatomy, pathology, entrapment zones, as well as research/case studies. Learn how this approach can help clients with chronic pain and sports injuries, and get a demonstration on guided palpation related to the nervous system and the visceral system.

Veronika Campbell is a manual physical therapist with over 20 years of experience, and an adjunct professor at local universities. She is the owner of Integrated Manual Physical Therapy, a clinic that specializes in the Barral Method of visceral, vascular, and neural manipulation.

Dimensional Massage Therapy for the Shoulder (Hands-on with table)

Use dimensional massage therapy to evaluate and address a variety of common difficult shoulder girdle and shoulder joint conditions including adhesive capsulitis, dislocations, rotator cuff tendonitis, thoracic outlet syndrome and more. Review the muscular anatomy of the shoulder, trigger points and referred pain patterns. Explore how posture and repetitive holding patterns affect the muscles of the head, neck and shoulders. Learn dimensional massage therapy techniques for the all of the muscles associated with the shoulder joint.

Nancy W. Dail began her massage therapy career in 1974. She combines acupuncture, Aikido, and Western massage in her practice. Nancy is board certified, has served on the AMTA National Board, COMTA and was Charter President of the AMTA Maine Chapter.

Massage Therapy for Neck, Shoulder and Upper Extremity Pain (Hands-on)

Neck, shoulder and upper extremity pain can be caused by physical, psychosocial and/or stress factors. The pain often requires a multi-faceted approach including massage therapy and a variety of other methods such as stretching, IASTM and strengthening. In this session, review common pathologies and different techniques for alleviating pain.

Jeffrey Forman, PhD, BCTMB, CMT taught massage therapy for many years. Currently retired, he now serves as chair of the California Massage Therapy Council (CAMTC) and chair of the CAMTC’s schools advisory committee, in addition to maintaining an active schedule as a speaker, author, consultant and researcher.

Pharmacology for Massage Therapists

As a massage therapist, you may encounter many clients taking prescription drugs. In this session, gain an understanding of medication contraindications and how they relate to massage therapy. Explore the basic classifications of medications and their effects on the body. Learn how to modify massage sessions to accommodate pharmaceutical restrictions with a special focus on psychiatric, pain, cardiovascular, diabetes and anti-inflammatory medications.

Rob Kelly is a licensed and board-certified massage therapist who has been practicing and teaching for over 24 years. Currently, he teaches anatomy, physiology and pathology as well as many orthopedic classes at Irene’s Myomassology Institute.

Assessment and Treatment of Headaches (Hands-on with table)

In this hands-on workshop, discover a variety of massage techniques and lifestyle recommendations to alleviate headache pain. Gain a comprehensive assessment approach for various types of headaches. Explore the anatomy, physiology and etiology of headaches including the types, locations, causes and connections with the meridians of the body. Techniques will include trigger point and acupressure.

Dr. Yusuf M. Mihaylov is a Chinese medicine practitioner, with many years of experience in acupuncture, massage therapy, Chinese herbs and homeopathy. He has also studied physical rehabilitation with emphasis on medical massage, bone-setting techniques and therapeutic exercises.

Effective Soft-Tissue Strategies for Plantar Fasciitis and Plantar Fasciosis (Hands-on)

Did you know heel pain affects up to 10 percent of the population? Many long-term cases of plantar fasciitis are actually plantar fasciosis, which requires a very different massage therapy approach. Explore the difference between these two conditions and learn effective massage strategies for both.

Douglas Nelson has been practicing massage since 1977 and opened his clinic in Champaign, IL in 1982. His teaching institute (NMT MidWest) gives over 80 seminars in Precision Neuromuscular Therapy annually. Doug is the author of two books and past president of the Massage Therapy Foundation.

Laura Parker is an NCBTMB-approved CE provider, massage instructor and massage therapist. She teaches medical massage and has experience working in nursing homes, with physical therapists, chiropractors and more.

Spinal Dynamics: Restoring Mobility and Stability

In this course, explore the function and structure of the spine as it relates to overall body function, mobility, and chronic pain patterns. Learn how to apply specific massage therapy techniques to improve mobility and relieve pain. Gain an in-depth understanding of the dynamics of spinal movement.

Lynn Teachworth is certified in over 20 massage and complementary medicine techniques and has been in the profession since 1993. Lynn has also worked with many professional athletes to address injuries and physical/mental performance.

Ann Teachworth has been working in integrative health, human performance, and movement for 15 years. She is an educator for massage therapists and yoga instructors, and focuses on functional anatomy, kinesiology, and mind-body training.
