Ohio Becomes the First State to Adopt the Revised Massage Therapy Compact
July 8, 2026
We are excited to share that Senate Bill 276 (SB 276) has been signed into law by Governor DeWine. This legislation enacts the Revised Massage Therapy Compact, making Ohio the first state to adopt the updated version of the Interstate Compact. Notably, Ohio was also the first state to establish massage licensure—demonstrating a long-standing commitment to advancing the profession!
The Revised Massage Compact will establish a more inclusive interstate licensing framework that expands opportunities for Ohio massage therapists to practice in multiple states, increasing professional mobility while maintaining strong public safety standards.
Continuing Education Now Required for License Renewal
In addition, SB 276 includes an important provision requiring state-licensed massage therapists to complete continuing education as a condition of license renewal. This marks a significant advancement in Ohio, aligning licensure requirements with the eligibility standards needed to participate in the Revised Massage Therapy Compact.
The passage of SB 276 supports greater mobility for massage therapists while upholding high standards of public protection and practitioner competency in Ohio.
