September Focus - National Pain Awareness Month
September is National Pain Awareness Month - according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 50 million Americans suffer from chronic pain, and it affects more people than diabetes, heart disease and cancer combined. For pain relief, many people have turned to prescription opioids, which carry a serious risk of addiction, abuse, and overdose, in addition to several side effects.
For this reason, health organizations and governmental agencies are looking at new ways to manage pain. Massage therapy is a safe and effective option.
AMTA is the largest nonprofit, professional association serving massage therapists, massage students and massage schools.
We're the only member-driven organization working to meet the diverse needs of all of our members and their hopes for the profession. This is why we're the most trusted and respected name in massage therapy.
