AMTA 2014 Schools Summit Wrap-up

Last month, 120 massage therapy educators, administrators and vendors came together in San Diego, February 6-7, to share big ideas in education and health care, exchange industry standards, and get up to speed on the latest research at the 2014 AMTA Massage Therapy Schools Summit.

Keynote speaker Adam Perlman, director of Duke Integrative Medicine, kicked off the Schools Summit with an eye-opening session focused on preparing students to work in the new health care environment. Perlman focused on the practical tactics that schools can use to prepare students to thrive in the health care environment, including teaching research literacy and emphasising strong communication skills.

Winona Bontrager, AMTA immeidate past president, and Nancy Porambo, current AMTA president, led attendees in a spirited discussion of the AMTA Massage Profession Report. Participants received an overview of the key information in the report along with tips on how to use the resource for everything from recruitment to career services to curriculum development.
