Melissa Wheeler is an instructor and teacher training coordinator at the National Holistic Institute’s campus in Emeryville, California (just outside of San Francisco). She is in her 18th year of teaching and in her 20th year as a massage therapist. She is nationally certified and serves on the Education Committee of the Massage Therapy Foundation and the Advisory Council of Books of Discovery.
Of all her accomplishments as an educator in the field of massage, however, she is most proud of guiding students who said they "couldn't do it" to eventually discovering their learning styles and hidden talents and becoming the successful students they never thought they could be.
Melissa says. “Like the students and new teachers who thought they were not qualified to be successful, this award is something that I thought was out of my reach.
"I am so touched that my peers thought to nominate me and go through the arduous application process–all without my knowledge. It has been an amazing experience to read what students, teachers and others in the massage education industry have written about me and how they have honored my contributions.”
