2019 Team MTF - Running for Research 

The Massage Therapy Foundation is excited to announce the selection of four runners for our 2019 Boston Marathon team as part of the John Hancock Non-Profit Marathon Program.

Team MTF - Running for Research will run in the Boston Marathon on April 15, 2019.


2018 Research Grant Awarded

Hand with IVThe Foundation is pleased to announce the award of a $30,000 MTF Research Grant to Kelly Tanner, PhD, OTR/L, at Nationwide Children's Hospital, Columbus, OH for her study, Effect of Massage Therapy on Opiate Use in the Hospital-Based Pediatric Population.

The study will explore the role of and evidence for massage therapy in treating pain in pediatric patients admitted to a pediatric hospital. It will describe the extent of consultations and utilization of massage therapy in a large, urban, Midwestern, freestanding pediatric hospital, and then determine the extent to which massage therapy reduces use of opioid pain medication during hospital admissions.

This research will help establish baseline demographics for a hospital-based pediatric population which advancing massage therapy as an alternative to opioid use in this population.

IMTRC Presenters: Addressing the Opioid Epidemic with Massage Therapy

IMTRCAs the United States struggles with the epidemic of opioid use and its devastating effects on lives, society and the economy, it's important to consider the role massage therapy can play in pain management. Hear from leading experts at the International Massage Therapy Research Conference (IMTRC) as they discuss integrative strategies to address the current opioid crisis and the innovative research on the horizon.

IMTRC 2019 will be held May 9-10 in Alexandria, Virginia (just outside Washington, DC).

IJTMB is open-access, peer-reviewed and indexed in PubMed. It is the official journal of the Massage Therapy Foundation and is supported by the Registered Massage Therapists' Association of British Columbia.

Through IJTMB, the Foundation provides peer-reviewed case reports and scientific information free of charge to therapists, students, medical professionals, patients and anyone else who may be interested in the science behind therapeutic massage.
