Message From AMTA President Jeff Smoot

Together we are AMTA!

I write this letter shortly after returning home from my first National Board meeting as your new AMTA President. At the beginning of each year the new, the Board participates in National Leadership Orientation (NLO). We come together for two days of training and team-building exercises to discuss what our roles, responsibilities and duties will be for the coming year. We are continually reviewing our policies and bylaws, as well as our products, programs and services to ensure we are providing you up- to-date benefits and meeting your needs. We send out surveys so that we can best understand what tools for success you need in your practice. We listen to you. Your input is essential…you help determine what we do for you and the profession. We are all AMTA

We’re all on a mission together—the National Board of Directors, Chapter Leaders and staffto serve our members while advancing the art, science and practice of massage therapy. We will be moving forward to establish greater visibility, participation and influence of AMTA in the health care community in order for those in that industry to understand the benefits of massage therapy and the value of working with massage therapists. AMTA releases regular Research Roundups to consumer and health care media. We are using new research to educate consumers and your potential clients that massage therapy has very real health benefits and that they should seek that massage from an AMTA massage therapist. And, we provide this information to our members so you can share it with your clients and community. We are truly all in this Together.

I look forward to our coming together at the AMTA 2015 National Convention which is to be held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, August 19-22, 2015. Be sure to register early! Olympic Figure Skater Scott Hamilton will share the lessons he learned as a top athlete and cancer survivor during Opening Session. New York Times columnist Suleika Jaouad will chronicle her experience as a cancer survivor, joining a leading oncologist from MD Anderson Cancer Center at Closing Session.
