Message From AMTA President Nancy Porambo

Never Discount the Power of One!

This year has gone by fast and with each passing week as your president, I am able to witness the many spectacular facets of our organization. We just experienced one of our most successful conventions ever, and the member feedback has been amazing! I am excited to see national and chapter volunteers working together with enthusiasm and a sense of camaraderie to achieve common goals.

I am also happy to witness the work being done as we integrate more with health care. I am seeing the work that is taking place as stakeholders in the profession work together to move the profession forward.

During my tenure, I have witnessed the intersection of the past, the present and the future. The past is what brings us together and represents decades of hard work, making AMTA a strong and dominant association. The present is the current engagement of our members, making ourselves stronger, and the planning of things that need to be done to help us all grow. The future is the excitement we feel when we establish new programs, gain new members and catch a glimpse of what we can become.

Looking Forward ...

As the road bends for me and I approach the end of my term as president, I need only to glance over my shoulder to know that there are still great things to come. The future is bright for this organization because it is in the hands of so many talented members. Many will continue to develop into active leaders on the state and national levels; others will fulfill valuable roles by sharing ideas; and everyone, I am certain, will continue to work diligently to develop the skills and techniques to be better therapists.

Each individual’s contribution serves to strengthen this organization as a whole, and we can never discount the power of ONE—one voice, one idea and one experience! We must remain vigilant in serving our members and elevating the profession in the minds of our clients and colleagues. This will only be accomplished through our commitment to education, research and developing a strong and singular voice that speaks clearly in expressing the integrity of our profession!
