Watch: Message From AMTA President Nancy Porambo

Leading With Understanding ...

As I begin my journey as your president, I am truly honored to serve you in this role. I’ve learned from the leaders that have come before me and continue to learn from listening to our members that are accomplishing major things in their local communities and regions. I’ve served in a variety of positions on the chapter and national levels, so I understand the hard-work and commitment that comes with leadership on all levels. I’m not sure if anyone is fully prepared to take on the immense responsibility of leading a national organization, but I can guarantee you that I am prepared to respond quickly and work hard to make this year a successful one.

AMTA provides its members with the greatest benefits in the industry and sets the standards for excellence in massage therapy. Our members are our most important asset, and they deserve the best the organization can give. AMTA members are committed to individual excellence and value the strength of the massage community. They recognize that it requires personal responsibility to advance their vocation, and AMTA provides the ideal medium to achieve their career aspirations. My goal this year is to open the door for conversation with as many of you as I can. I want to hear your suggestions and new ideas. These conversations add to my pride in belonging to this great organization.

Moving Forward

As our profession continues to move forward, it is evident that clients and health care providers alike are looking positively at massage therapy for its health benefits. Yet, there are millions of people that have not been touched by the power of massage. For the profession to grow, we need to continue to find opportunities to reach out to a wider band of consumers and motivate them to visit a massage therapist.

With this thought in mind, it should come as no surprise that the keynote speaker at this year’s National Convention is Dr. Mehmet Oz! Dr. Oz is a nationally recognized voice in promoting healthy lifestyles. He delivers a message on developing and maintaining good health that resonates to an overwhelming amount of people worldwide. Dr. Oz’s presence at our AMTA National Convention speaks volumes to the merit of our place in the wellness sector. Our association with Dr. Oz will help with AMTA's exposure.

I look forward to meeting you at the National Convention which is to be held in Denver, Colorado, September 17-20, 2014. Be sure to register early!
