Message From AMTA President Cynthia Ribeiro

Welcome to FY ‘12/13 at AMTA! This is an exciting time for our association. We have many new activities planned for the upcoming year, and I’m honored to have had a hand in developing strategies that are aligned with AMTA’s goals and designed with the intention of helping our members succeed. While there is still much to do, I’m looking forward to the endless opportunities we have to elevate our profession.

For me, the past few months have been crazy as I prepared to step into the role of president. As you may have read, in February we hosted our Schools Summit where top educators attended education sessions and engaged in dialogue about the hot issues they are facing. I had the privilege to be a part of this terrific event and participated in some invaluable conversations and idea sharing with our very important School members.

At the beginning of March, our new Board of Directors was sworn in after a two-day leadership orientation that included our executive director, staff directors and standing committee chairs. Our goal is to be open and honest with one another as we guide AMTA. That said, we’ll continue to encourage and solicit input from you--our members—about the benefits and services you need to build a successful practice.

At the meeting, we also engaged in a roundtable discussion with chapter leaders about the best uses for social media at the national and chapter levels. Relative, efficient/timely and innovative use of social media is an important tool in improving our ability to communicate with our members, stakeholders and clients about the benefits of massage and AMTA member therapists.

I am very proud to be in this role at such an important time for our profession. As a lifelong student and educator, my passion is for higher educational standards and competencies, but my heart is for anything that will benefit our members and provide opportunities for you to succeed.

I look forward to serving you over the next year and encourage you to communicate with us about your needs, desires, hopes and dreams for your practice, the profession and our AMTA.

Together, we will elevate the profession!

Cynthia Ribeiro
