AMTA Continuing to Establish Greater Visibility, Participation and Influence in the Health Care Community
AMTA's representative to the American Medical Association (AMA) Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) Health Care Professional’s Advisory Committee (HCPAC) and AMTA staff recently attended AMA's CPT Editorial Panel and Advisors Annual Meeting, October 13-16, in Los Angeles. AMTA's participation in this annual meeting represents ongoing efforts to establish greater visibility, participation and influence in the health care community.
The three day meeting included an orientation, an all-attendee general session and the CPT HCPAC meeting. The meeting also gave AMTA an opportunity to network with other non-physician health care professionals who practice and frequently use CPT codes for physical medicine. Topics discussed included CPT changes under the new health care reform, physician preparation for changes in referral codes and medical home models. In addition to having representation on this important committee, AMTA's attendance also promoted the value and relevance of massage therapy to the health care community.
Members of HCPAC include representatives from the professions of social work, athletic trainers, speech therapy, podiatrists, pharmacy, optometrists, occupational therapy, chiropractic, naturopathy, physician assistants, respiratory therapy, physical therapy, dieticians, nursing, genetic counselors and massage therapy.
