Experience Downtown Denver: 5 Walkable Attractions

Denver is a city long lauded as best seen by foot. Experiencing AMTA at the 2014 National Convention  provides a remarkable opportunity to experience some of Denver’s best sights on foot. Here are five attractions just steps away from the Colorado Convention Center and the official host hotel, the Hyatt Regency.

Denver Art Museum, 9 minute walk

Housed in a striking angular building, the Denver Art Museum is less than half a mile from Convention. Known as one of the best museums between the West Coast and Chicago, the Denver Art Museum will be housing two special exhibits during the AMTA National Convention: 20th century Japanese prints and Daniel Sprick’s photo-like portraits.

Union Station, 10 minute walk

At the peak of western migration, Denver’s Union Station served as the portal to 70 trains a day entering the city. Stop by the famous train station, less than a 10-minute walk from the convention center, to marvel at the 19th century Beaux Arts-style architecture and take in its history—outlined in plaques on the buildings at 1801 Wynkoop St. and 1635 17th St.

Civic Center Park, 12 minute walk

Civic Center Park serves as the hub of—you called it—civic activity in Denver and is worth a visit simply for its beautiful gardens, statues, fountains, and even a Greek amphitheater. During the summer and fall, however, it also becomes home to Civic Center eats, a foodie’s extravaganza featuring 46 food trucks and live music.

Rockmount Ranch Wear, 15 minute walk

Opened in Denver in 1946, Rockmount Ranch Wear is home to the original western snap-button shirt and boasts famous clients ranging from Bruce Springsteen to U.S. presidents. Head over to this Denver original for authentic western shirts, hats and accessories and a truly Colorado cultural experience.

The Tattered Cover Book Store, 16 minute walk

Located in Denver's famous 16th Street Mall—a mile-long promenade lined with shops and outdoor cafes—the Tattered Cover is one of the largest and most prominent independent bookstores in the countries. A favorite of locals and visitors, this gem offers both an impressive collection of books and view of historical Union Station.

The AMTA 2014 National Convention is September 17-20. Early registration ends July 18, so register now to get the best pricing and selection of classes.
