The AMTA Massage Therapy Tour
kicked off on July 12 in Chicago. Thousands of consumers visited the AMTA tent, received massages from the volunteers and learned how they could find an AMTA massage therapist to book their next appointment. The tour has since hit Columbus, Ohio and Lowell, Massachusetts. Next up: Philadelphia Phillies games, Aug. 3-4.
These tour stops mark the first direct consumer phase of the multi-year, multi-level commitment to raise the public’s awareness of the health benefits of massage therapy along with the professionalism of AMTA members. This year, we'll travel from Illinois to New England and on to Raleigh, North Carolina, with stops at major public events along the way reaching millions of people.
The Tour reinforces AMTA’s expanded media relations efforts to change the way people think about massage therapy and motivate them to seek massage for their health.
While these events are educating the public, they're also working to bring new business to our members. The AMTA Massage Therapy Tour is a commitment to you and your practice. » Professional members, make sure your profile is up-to-date!
Stop 1: Chicago
The AMTA Massage Therapy Tour kicked off at the Humana Race to the Taste on Friday, July 12, and continued with our Chapter Volunteer Orientation Program (CVOP) on Friday, the Taste of Chicago on Saturday and the Ride for AIDS on Sunday. Over 240,000 people were exposed to the AMTA Massage Therapy Tour this weekend, and 236 consumers received massages. Members who volunteered had the opportunity to promote their practices, and many walked away with prospective client leads. » See highlights from the Chicago leg of the tour!
On the NBC Chicago morning show, Illinois Chapter members offered chair massage on the NBC plaza on Michigan Avenue while discussing how to find a qualified massage therapist through the AMTA Find a Massage Therapist® locator service. AMTA members across the country showed their support for the on-air massage therapy spotlight and their fellow AMTA members in Illinois. » Watch the NBC Chicago shout out clip!
Tour Stop 2: Columbus
AMTA members volunteered at the 33rd Annual Columbus Jazz & Rib Fest, July 20-22. Volunteers explained the benefits of massage to festival attendees and demonstrated their skill, and many reported new client leads. AMTA members massaged 348 consumers, and reached the event's 300,000 attendees with the message of massage for health and wellness.
In Ohio, AMTA member Malissa Tracy discussed her practice, the health benefits of massage and questions consumers should ask their massage therapist on FOX 45 Dayton » Watch Malissa's interview!
Tour Stop 3: Lowell, Massachusetts
AMTA members volunteered July 27–July 29 at the Lowell Folk Festival, which drew an audience of 250,000 consumers. AMTA member volunteers were exposed to new potential clients while attendees were able to learn about massage and experience its benefits—some for the first time. AMTA volunteers gave five-minute chair massages to 363 festival attendees.
Between the tour and news media coverage, millions of consumers have been touched this summer with the message of massage for health and wellness and the importance of looking for an AMTA member, and we're looking forward to more to come!
