Massage Therapy Insurance Options

While you may think that having your license is all you need to practice massage, you should protect yourself and your business in the case of an unexpected liability, such as a client becoming injured, or damage to property other than your own as a result of something you may or may not have done.

An AMTA Professional Membership and AMTA Graduate Membership include broad liability insurance to protect massage therapists from covered losses.

With an AMTA membership, you're covered for up to $2 million per occurrence/$6 million aggregate for professional liability, general liability, products and personal injury. Learn more about coverage for students.

Dual Coverage Included in an AMTA Membership

We know massage therapists are multi-talented! That's why the insurance that comes with an AMTA membership includes dual liability coverage for massage therapists who are also yoga instructors and/or estheticians.

Hot Stone Massage Coverage Included

Coverage for hot stone massage is included in AMTA's insurance - with no extra costs or classes you have to take!

Unlike some companies, we won't charge you to add an additional insured entity to your coverage, such as your landlord or employer. And downloading or emailing your Certificate of Insurance is also free, and both are simple to do with the click of a button directly from your AMTA member profile.

Why do I need massage liability insurance?

Even the best massage therapists make mistakes or are perceived by a client as having caused injury through their professional services. Massage liability insurance through your AMTA membership covers you for amounts that you become legally obligated to pay as a result of a professional liability claim arising out of a covered medical incident.

If you work for someone else, not only do many employers require you to have liability insurance before they allow you to work, it’s always good to be prepared for the worst case scenario by obtaining coverage.

What are the benefits of having professional massage liability insurance?

Having professional liability insurance coverage as part of your AMTA membership gives you the peace of mind that you will be protected in your day-to-day massage practice.

With coverage through AMTA, your interests are protected if you are named in a lawsuit, and your coverage will travel with you as long as you are practicing within the scope of your license or certification, and in accordance with the modalities not specifically excluded.
