The American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) 2012 Massage Therapy Schools Summit February 16-17, 2012 in Chicago, IL will include keynote speaker Dr. Geoffrey Bove, who will review his ground breaking investigations into the connection between massage therapy and pain neurobiology, along with other recent research in massage therapy. Focusing on the importance of incorporating research information into the classroom, Dr. Bove will also share some of the challenges and realities of performing research.
Massage schools, owners, administrators and teachers will receive the latest industry information and participate in open dialog on charting the course of massage therapy education. Based on the theme Your Bridge to Success, the event will include discussion and networking focused on providing practical solutions and support to schools in addressing the complex needs of students, teachers and administrators. Educators will gain valuable and practical insight into teaching they can take back to the classroom.
Education opportunities will include sessions on the following:
- An investigation into how students learn best.
- Identifying learning styles in adult learning and improving student retention and recall.
- Developing rubrics to assess your students
- Managing a student clinic to ensure it is meeting goals
- An update on Title IV funding changes and the impact on accredited massage therapy schools.

AMTA encourages all massage therapy schools to send representatives to the Summit. With the massage therapy profession and education in a period of rapid evolution, the Summit will seek input on school-related issues and provide a venue for frank, inclusive dialogue on how schools can flourish and on the need to educate massage therapy students for successful practice.

All registrants will receive AMTA’s annual state of the profession research report in advance of the Summit to foster open dialogue on its content at the meeting. All other AMTA School members will receive the report after the Summit.
