AMTA Again to be Official Provider of Chair Massage Therapists at Energizer® Tent for Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the CureTM Events

Evanston, IL – For the second year in a row, the American Massage Therapy Association® (AMTA®) is partnering with Energizer® to support walkers at the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the CureTM events across the country as they take steps toward finding a cure for breast cancer. AMTA will be the official provider of massage therapists at the Energizer tent on Saturday nights, where member volunteers will again be providing walkers with 10-minute chair massages at events in 15 cities.

“AMTA is excited about maintaining this relationship and to give back to the community,” says Kathleen Miller-Read, AMTA President. “Volunteering and giving to the community are things our association and our members care about. The response of our members has been outstanding and clearly something they feel expresses who they are as massage therapists.”

In 2009, more than 300 AMTA members volunteered for the events nationwide. This year, the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure walks will take place weekly from July to November in locations across the country, including Boston, Cleveland, Chicago, Michigan, Twin Cities, Denver, Seattle, San Francisco, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Atlanta, Tampa Bay, Dallas/Fort Worth, Phoenix and San Diego. Thousands of walkers are expected to train and participate in the walks nationwide. “This gives AMTA members throughout the country an opportunity to participate and share the benefits of massage with the walkers,” says Miller-Read.

AMTA members will connect with the 3-Day for the Cure activities through AMTA’s Volunteer Connections, a program established by the association to provide ways for its members to volunteer in local service activities.
