Back is one of most common reasons people see a doctor and miss work, according to the Mayo ClinicResearch has long supported massage therapy for low back pain, and a new study contributes to this growing body of research.

The Study

Research published in the journal Pain Medicine investigated the efficacy of massage therapy for low back pain. Patients in the The Kentucky Pain Research and Outcomes Study had 10 massage sessions with licensed massage therapists over 24 weeks.

The study results showed massage therapy positively impacted pain, disability and health-related quality of life for the patients with chronic low back pain, and calls for further research on the subject.
