Evanston, IL — The American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) will hold its annual national convention at the Albuquerque Convention Center, September 21- 24, 2005.  More than 1200 members of the national organization for professional massage therapists will convene for educational training workshops, information about current research on the efficacy of massage, association business meetings and a tradeshow of 140 exhibitors.

Scheduled keynote speaker Brian Tracy will talk about “Massage Therapy in the 21st Century.”  Tracy is a successful businessman, popular business speaker and worldwide best-selling author of over 30 books and 300 audio/video learning programs including Breaking the Success Barrier, Create Your Own Future and How to Master Your Time.

Information will also be available on the current state of massage therapy research, provided by the Massage Therapy Foundation, which will hold its first “Highlighting Massage Therapy in CAM Research” conference September 25 – 27 at the Hotel Albuquerque at Old Town.  AMTA is a presenting sponsor of this conference.

AMTA President, Mary Beth Braun, of Indianapolis, Indiana, will welcome association members to twenty-five educational sessions ranging from massage techniques to information on issues facing massage therapists.

Sessions will focus on such topics as massage for chronic pain (including overcoming back problems), the effects of repetitive movement on a muscle, as well as massage therapy business practices (i.e. how to prepare for and increase doctor referrals).

October 23-29 is National Massage Therapy Awareness Week, sponsored each year by AMTA, to educate the public on the benefits of massage.  The theme for National Massage Therapy Awareness Week 2005 is “Massage: A Key to a Healthier You.” On October 20, 2005 AMTA will release results of its annual consumer survey on use of massage.

With over 53,000 members, the American Massage Therapy Association works to advance the profession through ethics and standards, public education and the promotion of fair and consistent licensing of massage therapists in all 50 states.  The association serves its members while advancing the art, science and practice of massage therapy and supports evidence based practice of massage through the Massage Therapy Foundation.

AMTA also offers a free Find A Massage Therapist national locator service to help consumers find qualified massage therapists throughout the U.S. The service is also by using our toll-free at telephone number 888-843-2682 (888-THE-AMTA).
