Evanston, IL — The
American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) will
hold its annual national convention at the Albuquerque Convention Center,
September 21- 24, 2005. More than 1200 members of the national
organization for professional massage therapists will convene for
educational training workshops, information about current research on
the efficacy of massage, association business meetings and a tradeshow
of 140 exhibitors.
Scheduled keynote speaker
Brian Tracy will talk about “Massage Therapy in the 21st
Century.” Tracy is a successful businessman, popular business speaker and
worldwide best-selling author of over 30 books and 300 audio/video learning
programs including Breaking the Success Barrier, Create Your Own
Future and How to Master Your Time.
Information will also be
available on the current state of massage therapy research, provided by the
Massage Therapy Foundation, which will hold its first “Highlighting Massage
Therapy in CAM Research” conference September 25 – 27 at the Hotel
Albuquerque at Old Town. AMTA is a presenting sponsor of this conference.
AMTA President, Mary Beth
Braun, of Indianapolis, Indiana, will welcome association members to
twenty-five educational sessions ranging from massage techniques to
information on issues facing massage therapists.
Sessions will focus on such
topics as massage for chronic pain (including overcoming back problems), the
effects of repetitive movement on a muscle, as well as massage therapy
business practices (i.e. how to prepare for and increase doctor
referrals).
October 23-29 is National
Massage Therapy Awareness Week, sponsored each year by AMTA, to
educate the public on the benefits of massage. The theme for National
Massage Therapy Awareness Week 2005 is “Massage: A Key to a Healthier You.”
On October 20, 2005 AMTA will release results of its annual consumer survey
on use of massage.
