Connecting to RRD Elgin FTP Site

The purpose of this document is to illustrate how to connect to the RRD Elgin FTP Server from outside Donnelley walls. This document will take you through connecting from a Mac using Fetch. Go to http://www.dartmouth.edu/pages/softdev/fetch.html if you need to download a copy of Fetch. The general FTP server information will allow connection using any FTP Client from Mac or PC. If you need further assistance with connecting to the FTP server, either from Mac or PC, please contact Gary Tickle at 847-931-6354.

FTP Password

Host ID: ftp.rrdelgin.com
Username: amerisage
Password: therapy
Home Directory: american_massage

FTP Server Address: ftp.rrdelgin.com

You can also connect with a Web Browser to get the Fetch RRDElgin Guest bookmark.
ftp://elgin1:guest@ftp.rrdelgin.com/pub/Bookmarks/Fetch/
Getting the bookmark just saves you from having to type in the above information. Either way will work. Move this bookmark to the Fetch application folder.

Preparing the files and folders to be transferred
If your files are “loose” create a folder and put the files to be transferred into this folder.
You can stuff your folder and leave it as a .sit file. Files with the .sea are for a user who don’t
have Stuffit Deluxe or Stuffit Expander. This number is getting smaller as Netscape and Explorer
come with a version of Stuffit Expander.

Connecting Via Fetch for Macintosh
1 Launch Fetch
2 Go to File -> Open Bookmark File
3 Double Click on RRD Elgin Folder. This will connect you to the RRD Elgin FTP Server in the /pub directory. If your company has their own directory you will have access to that directory as well as the /pub directory.

To send files Using Fetch
If you plan to compress your files, please compress them as a .SIT (Stuffit) file instead of .SEA (Self-Extracting Archive).
1. After you compressed your files (if needed) and successfully logged onto the FTP Server, Navigate inside the folders to where you want to “Put” the files you will be sending. If you had account created, you should “Put” the files there.
2. We will use the to_rrd and from_rrd folders

To retrieve files Using Fetch
1 We will first create a download folder for all files downloaded using Fetch will be saved into. Go to the Customize -> Preferences -> Download section. Check the box “User Download folder:” Click on the box next to it. This is where we navigate to the download folder.
2 You can have the folder anywhere on your local drive. Once you have located your folder, highlight it and click on “Save Files Here”.
3 You will now see your folder as the preferred download folder. Click <OK> when you are done.
4 Connect to the RRD Elgin FTP Server if you haven’t already. We will use the “Pub” directory for our example. If you had a directory setup, you will go into your assigned directory.
5 Click on the file you would like to download to your local computer. After you have made your selection, click on “Get File”. The file will be automatically downloaded to the folder you have designated as your download folder.
